In 2018, we set a new milestone for sustainable production with the expansion of our circulating water treatment plant to include a biological primary clarifier.
Through this additional stage of wastewater pretreatment, up to 90% of the organic substances contained in the circulating water are converted into sewage gas (methane). The biogas obtained in this way is used as a renewable energy source for steam generation in paper production.
The use of this renewable energy thus lowers the consumption of natural gas and reduces CO2 emissions.
